Sixth Form

Kingsdale Foundation School Sixth Form is a specialist selective provision situated in the heart of Dulwich.  Sixth form students study a range of traditional and innovative courses in preparation for admission to top universities, further or higher education or training in the United Kingdom, Europe or the United States of America.  Access to each pathway and course is determined by individual student attainment and attendance at Key Stage 4. Two references are required including one from the current Headteacher of each applicant.

Students at Scholarship level at Key Stage 4 at Kingsdale are granted an automatic Scholarship at Key Stage 5 on entry to the sixth form subject to the usual conditions.  Scholarships in Mathematics, the Creative and Expressive Arts are made available to external applicants who meet our entry requirements and show the necessary aptitude.  Scholarships continue to be paid at a nominal rate of £1,000 per annum.

Kingsdale acknowledges the importance of student choice and students meeting the entry requirements are given a unique opportunity with their parents to speak with and to express a preference for the members of staff allocated to teach their chosen subjects. 

All courses are taught by a minimum of two highly qualified members of staff with a track record of success.

Pathway 1 – Baccalaureate
Minimum Entry Requirements – 5 GCSE Grade A or equivalent.  Year 11 Attendance 95%.

Students study four subjects at A/S level or equivalent in Year 12, progressing with 3 A2 or equivalent courses in Year 13.  They also take General Studies and the Extended Project leading to the AQA Baccalaureate award in Year 13.  At least one subject followed over the two years would be from Mathematics or the Creative and Expressive Arts specialist block.  Students also follow an enrichment programme which includes the options of the Duke of Edinburgh Award, Community Service or CCF.

Pathway 2 – Advanced
Minimum Entry Requirements – 4 GCSE Grade B or equivalent. Year 11 Attendance 93%.

 
Students study three or four subjects at A/S level or equivalent in Year 12, progressing with 3 A2 or equivalent courses in Year 13.  At least one subject would be from the Mathematics or Creative and Expressive Arts specialisms. Students also follow an enrichment programme which includes the options of the Duke of Edinburgh Award, Community Service or CCF.

Students wishing to pursue an Advanced Level Course in Mathematics must have achieved a minimum of Grade A in Mathematics at GCSE. 

Pathway 3 – Transition
Minimum Entry Requirements – 5 GCSE Grade C or equivalent. Year 11 Attendance 91%.

Students study 1 subject at A/S level or equivalent and two subjects at Level 2 in Year 12. At least one subject would be from the Creative and Expressive Arts or Mathematics specialist block.   They also study an enrichment programme which includes the options of the Duke of Edinburgh Award, Community Service or CCF.  There is the option for progression onto additional Level 3 courses in Year 13.

The number of spaces available in Year 12 is limited and offers will be made to students expected to meet the minimum entry requirements in the order in which applications and references are received.
